According to John Hopkins Medicine, the average human respiratory rate is 12 to 16 breaths per minute. This converts to an average of 840 breaths per hour, 14,1120 breaths per week, and 7,363,289 breaths per year.
According to course materials supplied by Wayne State University, babies take 30 or more breaths per minute, children breathe 22 to 28 times per minute and adolescents take 16 to 20 breaths per minute. Sleep, exercise, emotional condition and health conditions can all contribute to increasing or decreasing the respiratory rate of an individual to a seemingly abnormal level. Women have higher rates of respiration than men.
