What is the Scream Tunnel on Boston's course?

The "Scream Tunnel" is not an actual physical tunnel but a row of Wellesley College students who engage in a tradition of lining up along the Boston Marathon route to encourage runners. Wellesley, which traditionally admits only women, is situated near the marathon route, making it easy for students to watch the race.

True to its name, the Scream Tunnel is loud, and it can apparently be heard from a mile away. Wellesley students form a line that can be a quarter of a mile long, holding encouraging signs, clapping, shouting and offering high-fives, hugs and even kisses to passing runners.
