What do sea horses eat?

Sea horses are carnivores and primarily eat small crustaceans and plankton. They are best known for being the only member of the animal kingdom where the males give birth to the babies. However, they also have an unusual digestive system because they do not have stomachs or teeth.

Because sea horses do not have stomachs, they must eat almost all the time to ensure they have the nutrients they need for the energy they are expending at that time. They take food in by sucking it through their long noses. Sea horses are not particularly hardy, and only live 1 to 5 years in the wild.
