What do seabirds eat?

Seabirds eat seafood.Some seabirds eat food gleaned from the ocean's surface, some eat food they are able to retrieve by diving down into the ocean and some steal food from other seabirds in addition to what they catch themselves.

Surface skimmers typically eat forage fish, krill and squid, while divers have access to a wider variety of fish. Some seabirds rely on tuna and dolphins to nudge shoaling fish up to the surface.

Seabirds are often referred to as marine birds, and 95 percent of them are colony dwellers. Colonies containing as many as one million seabirds have been found in the tropics and the polar latitudes.
