A second degree program is a degree program for someone who already has a bachelor's degree but needs to fulfill course requirements in a different subject area for a higher degree or a career. A liberal arts major might get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a second degree.
Another example is a history major who wants to enter a graduate psychology program that requires students to have taken certain undergraduate psychology courses. A math major who has decided to become a math teacher might get a second degree in education. Second degree students must usually earn 30 to 60 more credits for the new degree.
