The largest section of the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Pyramid, in 2006, was the grains section. In 2005, the USDA changed its food pyramid to include information about exercise and the quality of the food in each section. In 2011, the pyramid model was replaced with MyPlate.
In 2005, the USDA updated its food pyramid graphic. The new model was called MyPyramid, and it emphasized physical activity by showing a figure climbing the pyramid. MyPyramid recommended that 27 percent of a person's daily food intake should be grains. This is considerably fewer grains than the 1992 food pyramid, which recommended nearly half of a person's food intake should be grains.
