What is a seismic gas shutoff valve?
By Forinfos - 22/02/2025 - 0 comments
A seismic gas shut-off valve is a valve designed to shut off the gas flow to a house when it detects an earthquake, reducing the risk of fire or explosion. In earthquake-prone areas, local regulations may require the installation of a shut-off valve.
In most cases, the valve must be installed on the customer’s side of the gas piping. If the gas needs to be turned off during installation, the local gas company must be contacted to shut off and restore service. If the valve is triggered, a professional should be contacted to reset it and test all gas-powered appliances. An excess flow valve is similar to a shut-off valve and is designed to stop the flow of gas due to a leak or excessive pressure.
