What is a selfie?

A selfie is defined as a self-portrait photograph taken with a digital camera or phone camera. This photo is then shared on any number of social media websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google Plus.

Selfies have grown in popularity as the use of social networking websites has become more prevalent in society. People aged 18 to 34 take and post more selfies than any other demographic. The most common form of selfies are taken using front-facing cameras or mirrors with the subjects holding their cameras at arms' length. Selfies can be taken individually or as part of a group.
