Does the serial number of a Coach bag tell you the bag's quality?

The Coach serial number does not provide quality information. The serial number represents the year the bag was made, the factory in which it was made, the season and the four-digit model number. The serial number can be used to distinguish a real Coach bag from a counterfeit.

Coach serial numbers have changed over the years. Before 1994, they contained seven digits, and after this up to 10 digits to incorporate more information. Other information the serial number provides is the store for which the bag was made, such as the Coach Factory Store, Nordstrom or Macy's department stores, or a discount store.
