The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, also called PennDOT, publishes up-to-date travel conditions and provides services such as identification and driver's licensing, vehicle registration, and personalization of registration plates. PennDOT also offers the E-Z Pass, an electronic toll-collection system available on most tolled roads, bridges and tunnels.
PennDOT manages licensing for commercial, school bus, motorcycle and personal drivers; provides free online practice tests; and administers driver's road tests. PennDOT can waive the requirement of the Commercial Driver's License Skills Test for Pennsylvania residents who are active or reserve-duty military or recent honorably discharged veterans who have at least two years of experience operating a commercial motor vehicle as part of their military job requirements.
PennDOT also manages records of drivers histories, which individuals, insurance companies and background service companies can request.
