A Hotmail account provides an inbox for emails as well as also access to Microsoft services, including Xbox Live, OneDrive and Office 365. It can also be used to log in to smartphones and computers powered by Windows Phone and Windows 8.1, respectively. When creating an account, users may opt to add a phone number or an alternate email address to keep their accounts secure. This security info can be updated later in the account settings.
