Where is Shanghai?

Shanghai is located in eastern China on the Pacific coast. The city sits to the south of Zhejiang Province and to the northwest of Jiangsu Province.

Shanghai has two main sections: the older Puxi in the west and the more modern Pudong, which is the east section of Shanghai. The city is bisected by the Huangpu River. Shanghai's Puxi section features museums, shops and restaurants, while the Pudong section is known for its tall skyscrapers including the Shanghai International Financial Center, the Jinmao Building and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

The literal translation of Shanghai is "city by the sea."
