What was the shelter of the Mound Builders?

Stone, clay and dirt were used to erect shelter for the prehistoric American Indians. Mound Builders are prehistoric Indians who buried their dead in large mounds.

In the beginning of the era, Mound Builders were hunter and gatherers, so they were capable of building shelter out of what was available and easy to transport. Once they discovered agriculture, which allowed them to plant fields of crops and raise livestock, they became more stationary and built cities and temples using clay, dirt and stone. Their civilizations were found from the Great Lake regions in North America down to the Gulf of Mexico.
