A shoemaker is a person who designs, makes or repairs shoes. "Shoemaker" is also a kitchen term that refers to a poor cook. A shoemaker can be someone who carelessly puts meals together.

Shoemakers use a tool called a last to make shoes. A last is in the shape of a human foot and is used to mold the shoe. Other tools such as knives, scissors and machine presses are also used to make shoes.

In the kitchen, a person can be called a shoemaker if he simply puts food on a plate with no regard for style or presentation.
