In December of 1946, the eight independent grocers formalized their cooperative relationship. In 1951, they all began using the ShopRite name to better advertise their prices. Within a year, the cooperative grew to more than 50 members strong. Presently, their merchandising and distribution section is the largest United Statesowned cooperative.
