Is there a short-haired golden retriever?

No short-haired golden retriever is recognized by the American Kennel Club. The AKC breed standard for golden retrievers calls for a longer coat which is dense and water-repellent. There are other breeds of retriever similar to golden retrievers which have short coats.

Some other retriever breeds that have short coats are the Labrador retriever, the Chesapeake Bay retriever and the curly coated retriever. The dog most similar in personality to the golden retriever is the Labrador retriever, which comes in a wide variety of colors. Some golden retriever mixes could also have short coats, depending upon what other breed is involved in the mix.
