Why should the driving age be lowered to 14?

There is ample statistical evidence that teenage drivers are far more dangerous than other drivers on the road, and in light of this, it is difficult to make an argument in favor of lowering the driving age to fourteen. One argument stands to support reducing the driving age: autonomous vehicles.

As technological innovation advances, the age of autonomous vehicles is fast approaching. It may soon be the case that the family van will transport the whole family from the park to the grocery store and back home, all without anyone touching the wheel.

Entirely automated vehicles may improve road safety to such a degree that an occupant of any age may travel in a vehicle alone.
