The minimum driving age should be raised to 18 years of age for three reasons. First, data shows that teen drivers are three times more likely than older drivers to be in a fatal crash. Inexperience in driving conditions and distracted driving are two other reasons.
Reliable data on traffic accidents and fatalities consistently show a spike between the ages of 16 and 18. Teens do not possess the focus required to handle an automobile. Teens are also easily distracted and tend to see driving as a social exercise. Those two years from 16 to 18 would allow for a teens to reach a maturity level necessary for safely operating a motor vehicle.
