Should a nose piercing be placed in the right or left nostril?

In Western cultures, there is not considered to be a single correct side for a nostril piercing to be placed, so whether the piercing goes on the right or left side is up to the individual. In some cultures, such as those that follow Ayurvedic medical traditions, it is preferred to place the piercing on the left side of the body.

Some parts of the world, such as Afghanistan, practice nostril piercing on both sides of the nose.
