When should you plant blackberries?

Plant blackberry bushes in the early spring, immediately after obtaining the plants. If for some reason you cannot plant them immediately, it is essential to keep the roots cool and moist by storing the bush in a refrigerator or cool room.
Before planting a blackberry bush, soak the roots in water for three to six hours. After soaking, cut off any broken roots. During planting, cover all roots completely from sunlight, as blackberry roots are extremely sensitive to the sun. Add a weak liquid fertilizer during planting, but keep it at least three inches away from the base of the plant in order to ensure the roots are not burned.
