Persons with type-2 diabetes can still eat desserts, but they are advised to limit sweets in order to maximize the nutrition value of their daily allotted calories, explains the American Diabetes Association. Meal plans for diabetic individuals focus on improving blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
While the type of carbohydrate eaten affects the rate at which blood-glucose levels rise, the amount of carbohydrates eaten at one time affect blood-glucose levels more, says the American Diabetes Association. Obesity is the highest risk factor for type-2 diabetes, so diabetics are advised to limit high-calorie sweets to special occasions as a preventative measure.
