When should I plant wisteria?

Plant wisteria in the spring or early fall, depending on the growing zone. Wisteria shrub grafts may take up to six years or more to begin flowering. Wisteria grown from seed may take 20 years or more to flower.
Even in the first year it is planted, wisteria vines can grow 10 feet or more. Wisteria blooms in the springtime if properly taken care of. Even if the wisteria has not flowered yet, the plant must be pruned twice a year in early spring and midsummer. Due to the expanding nature of the vines, not all communities allow wisteria plants.
