When should you seek treatment for a head concussion?

Seek immediate medical help if you have lost consciousness, even for a few seconds, following a concussion. Other symptoms requiring medical attention are a persistent headache, vomiting, slurred speech, drowsiness, convulsions, weakness and unusual behavior.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that some concussion symptoms may occur instantly, while others may go unnoticed for days, or even months. It's always important to rest after a concussion to let the brain recover and observe all the potential symptoms to determine if it is necessary to see a doctor. WebMD points out that a doctor can perform tests for coordination and reflexes, and conduct a CT scan or MRI if necessary. All head injuries must be taken seriously and it's recommended to schedule a follow-up within 1-3 days after an injury if symptoms worsen or persist.
