What should someone wear to graduation as a guest?

Guests should wear business, or business casual clothing to graduations. Graduations at many schools are considered semi-formal or formal events.

For men, attire suitable for graduations includes suits, or slacks and dress shirts with ties. Sweaters and blazers are also appropriate for the event.

Acceptable attire for women includes dresses, skirts and pant suits. The dress or skirt should not be too low cut or revealing. For winter graduations, sweaters and cardigans are also appropriate if an extra layer is needed.

If the commencement is held outside in inclement weather, rain ponchos are preferred as umbrellas can block the view of other guests.
