What is a side-by-side UTV?

A side-by-side utility task vehicle is an off-road vehicle featuring a side-by-side seating arrangement designed to carry two or six passengers. UTVs typically have seat belts, a roll cage and a cargo box. UTVs are also commonly referred to as recreational off-highway vehicles and side-by-sides.

UTVs are similar to all-terrain vehicles, although they are designed to carry more passengers and have higher payload capacity. A UTV has a steering wheel and foot pedals, whereas an ATV typically has a handlebar, a thumb-level throttle and a hand lever for braking. UTVs typically have four tires, although some models have six or more.
