Who is the Sierra Club founder?

The conservationist John Muir founded the Sierra Club in 1892. He named the Sierra Club for the Sierra Mountains associated with Yosemite National Park. He was aided by faculty from the University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University.

As founder, John Muir became the Sierra Club's first president. He is also credited with preserving both Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Park. In its early years, the Sierra Club sought to create new national parks to conserve and preserve wild plants and animals in the American West. In later years, it became an organization dedicated to educating and advocating for environmentalism.
