According to BabyCenter, RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, typically presents itself as cold-like symptoms, such as runny nose, minor cough or low fever, but can grow more serious. More serious signs are a more pronounced cough, labored breathing or wheezing.
According to the American Lung Association, the only symptoms of RSV in infants may be irritability, decreased activity, and breathing difficulties.
WebMD shares that RSV is a very common and highly contagious virus that infects the respiratory tracts of most children before their second birthday. Usually the infection causes little more than a cold; however, it can grow into something more dangerous, such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia.
