It is difficult to determine the exact location of the discovery of silver because it has been used since ancient times. Although the origins of silver are unclear, Archaeological finds do show that it has been used by people to craft decorative items, silverware and jewelry for around 5,000 years.
Silver was used in ancient times to make coins, but has now been replaced by other, cheaper and more abundant metals. Its purest form is also superior in its ability to conduct electricity and heat compared to all existing metals. Silver is mined from pure deposits and from the silver ores, such as horn silver and argentite.
