Where was neon discovered?

Neon was discovered in 1898 in England, by two scientists working at the University College London. One of the scientists, William Ramsay, also helped discover other elements on the periodic table.

Ramsay theorized that the elusive element hidden between helium and argon can be found within another element. With his fellow scientist, Morris Travers, Ramsay froze a sample of argon and evaporated it under reduced pressure. After collecting the gas that remained, the two men determined the spectrum of the gas by running a high-voltage current through it. The now-characteristic crimson glow of neon surprised both men and affirmed that they had discovered a new element.
