What is a simple way to make marmalade?

A simple recipe for making marmalade uses oranges, a lemon, water and sugar. The finished marmalade is used immediately or canned and stored unopened for six months.

To make marmalade, wash 5 oranges, and peel them thinly. Remove the seeds as you work. Quarter the orange slices, and add them to a large pot. Add 6 cups of water and the zest and juice of one lemon. Bring the mixture to a boil, and then reduce the heat to a rapid simmer. Simmer for 40 minutes or until the fruit is soft. Add 3 pounds and 12 ounces of sugar. Stir constantly until the marmalade reaches 222 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer and reaches soft gel stage.
