What is a simultaneous equation solver?

By Forinfos - 25/04/2025 - 0 comments

A simultaneous equation solver is an online tool that provides answers for equations that involve two or more unknown variables. Some solvers show the steps involved as well. The solver may either use the substitution or elimination method to work out an answer.

A user enters the coefficients of x and y for both equations into the boxes provided and clicks "solve" to produce results. By the elimination method, equations x + y = 3 and 2x + 3y = 4 are solved by first multiplying equation (1) by 2 to give the same coefficient for x. This produces 2x + 2y = 6 and 2x + 3y = 4. Subtracting the first equation form the second gives y = -2, which can be substituted in x + y = 3 to give x = 5.
