Where is Singapore located?

Singapore is located just south of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is 137 kilometers north of the equator and consists of 64 islands, according to the government website.

Singapore is a sovereign city-state formerly ruled by the United Kingdom and briefly part of the now-defunct Federation of Malaya, which gained independence as a country in 1965. The country is listed as the fourth-largest financial center in the world and boasts the third-highest per capita income in the world. Singapore has a population of just over five million in about 710 square kilometers, making it a very densely populated country, only second to Monaco.
