Where is Hong Kong located?

Hong Kong is in the southeastern corner of China. It's located in the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta and faces the South China Sea.

Hong Kong has a total land area of 426 square miles and is composed of 263 islands. As of 2014, the population of Hong Kong is roughly 7.2 million, making it one of the most densely populated places in the world. Hong Kong became part of the British Empire in 1842 and remained under British rule until 1997, except for a brief period during World War II when it was occupied by Japan. In 1997, Hong Kong was handed over to China as a Special Administrative Region.
