What is a single pole switch?

A single pole switch allows the user to control an outlet or electrical device from one area. It allows electricity to flow when it placed in the “on†position and stops the flow of electricity when it is placed in the “off†position.
A single pole switch is named as such because it controls only one circuit. The most basic type has two contacts it uses to either open or close the circuit in order to allow electricity to either flow or shut off. It comes in different types such as knife, toggle or pushbutton. A single pole switch directly controls devices such as ceiling fans, wall lamps, toys and remotes. When wired to an outlet, it controls the electricity to plug-in devices.
