What is a solenoid switch?
By Forinfos - 14/05/2026 - 0 comments
A solenoid switch is an integral part of an automobile's starting system that relays large electric current to the starter motor. It is mounted on the starting motor and receives large electric current from the car battery and small electric current from the ignition switch.
The solenoid switch converts the electrical energy from the batteries into mechanical energy to set the car's engine in motion. Electricity powers the solenoid coils, creating a magnetic field that attracts and pulls a plunger. The shift lever attaches to the plunger and connects to the drive pinion and the clutch assembly of the starter motor.
