The Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill is the largest landfill in South Dakota. It covers an area of 709 acres. Located about 5 miles west of the city of Sioux Falls, the landfill serves Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha and Turner counties.

The Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill has been in operation since 1979. As of 2014, it takes in 570 tons of municipal solid waste and 168 tons of construction and demolition rubble daily. In addition, the landfill has a composting operation area, an asbestos disposal section, a tree and brush zone and a deer carcass disposal spot. Household hazardous wastes and electronics are collected at the landfill but disposed of elsewhere.
