What are some sizes for bee hive frames?

There are three basic sizes of bee hive frames: deep, medium, and shallow. They differ in the vertical measurements, but the length and width is generally the same. The measurements will vary slightly depending on the manufacturing company.

For one company, the deep frame is 9 5/8 inches. The medium frame is 6 5/8 inches. The shallow frame is 5 11/16 inches.

There are usually eight to ten frames in each bee hive box. Boxes also come in shallow, medium, and deep.

Some bee hive manufacturing companies create each frame with a thin sheet of wax paper and a comb pattern. This pattern encourages the bees to have uniform comb shapes.
