Why is my skin itchy all over?

An individual may have itchy skin for several different reasons, including dry skin, rashes, internal disease, nerve disorders, irritations and allergic reactions and pregnancy, says Mayo Clinic. Skin conditions that cause itchiness, such as eczema, scabies, hives and chickenpox, often create bumps and blisters.
According to WebMD, some household products, including cleaning products, laundry detergent and floor polishes, take the essential oils from the skin. This can cause dryness and irritation. If itchy skin occurs often or lasts for more than 14 days, Mayo Clinic recommends seeing a doctor. To alleviate itchy skin for good, a diagnosis and treatment plan may be required.
