The Smith & Wesson Model 19 is a type of revolver. It takes a .357 magnum cartridge and was in production between 1957 and 1999.
The Model 19 uses Smith & Wesson's K-frame design, which was developed to handle its .38 Special cartridges. Development began when retired Border Patrol officer and firearms writer Bill Jordan consulted with Smith & Wesson on a design to make the ideal sidearm for a police officer. As a result, this model revolver was widely used by law enforcement until production was discontinued in 1999. A variant called the Model 66 was introduced in 2014.
