What are smooth muscle cell organelles?
By Forinfos - 13/01/2026 - 0 comments
Smooth muscle cells have the same organelles as other eukaryotic cells. The only difference between smooth muscle cells and other eukaryotic cell types is that smooth muscle cells contain many more mitochondria.
Smooth muscle cells have a nucleus, an endoplasmic reticulum, a Golgi apparatus, a vacuole and a nucleus. They also contain an abundance of mitochondria, which are the energy producers of the cell. Smooth muscle cells have more mitochondria than other eukaryotic cells because the cells must produce many molecules of ATP to facilitate muscle contraction and relaxation. Without an excess of ATP production, smooth muscle cells could not contract and relax easily.
