Does it snow in California?

Snow has been documented in almost all places in California, but it is an extremely rare occurrence in some areas, particularly the western region of the Sierra Nevada. Snow frequently falls only at higher altitudes in the Cascades and the Coast Range.
California experiences hot, arid summers and temperate, rainy winters, which is typical of a Mediterranean climate. The state's annual average temperatures range from 40 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. In terms of snowfall, some parts of California receive significant amounts during the winter season. In areas with an elevation of 7,000 to 8,000 feet, snowfall is generally heavy. The High Sierra and the Shasta Cascade frequently experience snow.
