Does it snow in Australia?

Snow falls in parts of southern Australia, particularly in the mountains. Snowfall is common during the winter in parts of Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales. Only Tasmania regularly receives snowfall outside of mountainous areas.
Northern and central areas of Australia do not receive snowfall under normal weather conditions. Northern Australia has a tropical climate, and temperatures are consistently warm throughout the year. Central Australia is a desert region and is largely too warm and arid for snowfall, even during the winter. Snow is possible as far north as southern Queensland in rare instances, but this is not a regular occurrence.
