Sheep produce two common natural sounds that are heard as, "baa" or "meh." Bleat or bleating is another term used to describe the crying sound that sheep and goats make.
"Baa", "baaing" and "meh" are the most common sounds produced by sheep. Bleat, or bleating, is the term used to describe the sound made by both sheep and goats. This sound can be heard as a cry, and is sometimes used informally to describe an individual who is complaining or whining. Female sheep are properly referred to as ewes; male sheep are referred to as rams, and baby sheep are referred to as lambs. Bleats can come in different ranges from high-pitched to low-pitched but all members of the sheep family produce these sounds.
