Spanish is not the official language of Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname. The British Overseas Territory of the Falkland Islands in South America also does not have Spanish as its official language.
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, French is the official language of French Guiana, Dutch is the official language of Suriname, and English is the official language of Guyana and the Falkland Islands. Spanish and Portuguese are the most common languages spoken overall throughout South America, with an estimated 200 million speakers for each of the languages. There are over 10 other languages spoken in South America.
