Southwest Airlines offers fliers an automatic EarlyBird check-in service. Customers can purchase the EarlyBird check-in option for a small fee each way at Southwest.com, over the phone, on the mobile site, and on the Southwest smartphone app up to 36 hours prior to their flight's scheduled local departure time.

This option can't be purchased at airport ticket counters. EarlyBird check-in occurs before the traditional 24-hour check-in and purchasers have the benefit of an early assigned boarding position, allowing them to board earlier. EarlyBird customers have their boarding passes reserved up to 36 hours before their specific flight's scheduled departure time.
