Where in Spain is Mallorca?

Mallorca is not in Spain proper but is an island in the Mediterranean about 130 miles from Barcelona. It is the largest of the Balearic Islands at about 1,405 square miles. The capital is Palma, which is also the capital of the Balearic Islands.
Mallorca has two mountain ranges: the Serra de Tramuntana and Serres de Llevant. Mallorca's highest mountain, Puig Major, is found in Serra de Tramuntana. Because the island is made largely of limestone, it is riddled with caves, both on land and underwater.
The island has been inhabited since prehistory, though not much is known about the original inhabitants. Palma was founded by the ancient Romans, but it only became the capital of the Balearic Islands in 1983.
