How do you spell "chihuahua"?

Chihuahua is spelled like so. The breed is named after the Mexican state Chihuahua, spelled the same way, where the dogs were first discovered in the mid to late 1800s.

Little is known about the exact origin of these dogs, but they have been used as show dogs since their discovery. The American Kennel Club first registered Chihuahuas in their official database in 1904. The breed saw an unexpected rise in popularity and in 1952 was separated into two different breeds: the smooth coat and the long coat. Today, many see Chihuahuas as a "purse dog" due to depictions of the breed in popular media.
