Will Spirit Airlines cover costs for lost baggage?

If a bag is permanently lost, Spirit customers may be entitled to a refund of bag fees after filing an in-person itemized customer property form. Per the U.S. Department of Transportation, all airline customers are also entitled to the depreciated value of the items that were lost up to $3,300.

Even though the vast majority of bags thought to be permanently lost are eventually recovered, there are protections in place for those that are not. However, the items eligible for reimbursement from Spirit Airlines do not include anything categorized as a valuable. Valuables include computers, books, contact lenses, cash and heirlooms.
