What is the spiritual gift of prophecy?

The Christian Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12 that the gift of prophecy points out sin, gives comfort and foretells future events. Believers teach that the gift of prophecy literally gives a person the ability to do these same things through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Some denominations teach that the gift of prophecy described in the Bible works differently in modern times. Without denying that the gift of prophecy exists, some believe that prophets have keen insight and can tell what might happen if changes do not occur. These believers feel that the gift of prophecy means being receptive to Gods words but has nothing to do with foretelling the future.
