The spleen is like a lymph node because it contains lymphocytes.
Lymphocytes are white blood cells that help the body fight off infections. The spleen and lymph nodes are both parts of the lymphatic system. This system protects the human body against infections and helps balance the amount of fluid in the body.
One of the spleen's most important jobs is removing foreign bodies from the circulatory system. The spleen also contains macrophages, which remove dead tissue, foreign matter and bacteria from the blood.
Lymph nodes act as filters. They remove viruses, bacteria and other harmful organisms from the body and are found in the armpit, neck, groin, chest and other parts of the body.
